Mobile Backhaul Networks
Mobile Backhaul Networking is changing. Mobile backhaul is the part of the network aggregating traffic from mobile base-stations. While voice previously was the dominant traffic source, the amount of video and data traffic now increases with a rapid pace and an exponential growth in video traffic is predicted for the years that comes.

Mobile backhaul networks demands. The large span of services served by the mobile network makes it necessary to tackle deliverance of both low-latency bandwidth services as well as cost effective transport of less demanding data-traffic. Furthermore there is a need for transporting synchronisation information, both time and frequency to the base-stations. While base-stations traditionally have been connected through PDH E1 circuits, the increased amount of data-traffic now pushes Ethernet as the new connection method. A mobile backbone network should therefore offer Ethernet transport with the efficiency of packet switching and the synchronisation properties known from SDH/PDH.
TransPacket mobile backhaul solution. TransPacket offers transparent Ethernet with wavelength-grade QoS (virtual wavelengths) for transport with circuit properties. The transparent Ethernet lines are well suited for transport of IEEE 1588 synchronisation information as well as the most performance demanding Ethernet services, like e.g. Voice and video. TransPacket packet paths enable efficient capacity utilization through statistical multiplexed transport of data-traffic on top of the Ethernet lines.
